Planning a retreat

Here are suggestions to anyone considering organising a retreat;

  1. First determine which group, TY, Confirmation, Sixth Years, parish youth etc..
  2. What sort of time allocation do you have?  Day, Day and overnight? Multi-day, weekend?
  3. Do you have supervisors willing to be involved? If its a mixed group you need male and female supervisors? Will they agree to stay over on the retreat?
  4. What area of activity or theme most interests you or the group?  You might want to deal with leadership in the group for example, or explore the concept of God and personal faith?
  5. What about financing the trip? Is there a possibility of subsidising the group from school or paish funds?  If not will the parents be willing to pay for such a retreat?
  6. Transport issues. How far is the centre from our location?  (Journey from Dublin takes around 2 hours depending on traffic) Do you use your school bus or do you hire in transport. (Centre offers bus hire for €10 return a head for 50 youth (€500 for bus) if you live within 100 mile radius of centre.
  7. Preparation and follow up. Is there anything that can be done prior to the retreat to maximise the impact on the group? What about follow up and evaluation?  Useful to consider these issues if the retreat is to make a real difference in the lives of the young people.
  8. Finally, look at the calender on the website for availabilty and give us a call to book your group.  The earlier we know of your interest the better.
