|Formation House, West London|
372 Uxbridge Road Ealing London W5 3LH
Situated in the West London suburb of Ealing is the Formation House which was purchased in 1956. This house is a Congregational house of the Ireland England Province of the Sacred Hearts Community of brothers and priests. At this present time the house is also designated as a formation house as we have one member in formation. As a general rule candidates for formation are usually based in Ealing and complete their philosophy/theology studies in London. This usually lasts three years. Following their stay in London they are given an opportunity of a pastoral experience in another country and culture.
The house is also used to accommodate the monthly meetings of the community's members based in England and for meetings of the core group of the SSCC Lay Associates. In addition, sscc members from other countries often come to Ealing either to study English or to engage in pastoral activities in the city.
Close to the house is the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes in Acton which is also staffed by a Sacred Hearts community. This is a great help to the formation house as students and visitors are able to involve themselves in little ways in some aspect of parish ministry and in social outreach.
There are currently three members of the Sacred Hearts Community living in Ealing. Other ministries include formation, retreat work, and mission appeals. Fr. Chris McAneny sscc is involved in contemplative ministry, introducing people to contemplative prayer and living while serving as curate in East Acton. Both he and Fr Derek Laverty sscc also support the parish in Acton and are involved in school chaplaincy. Fr. Kenneth Barnes sscc is retired.
